This is the second part of a two-part beard product review series I am writing for The Nordic Grooming Co.. In the first part, I reviewed 3 beard oil scents. In the second part, I will review 2 beard balm scents and 1 pine tar soap.

Fresh Forest and Lumberman Beard Balm Scents
Since I already described both the Fresh Forest and Lumberman scents in the first part of this review series, I don’t want to repeat myself.
The beard oil and beard balm scents are pretty much similar, so there’s not much to add in that regard. I’ll discuss the overall product quality and feeling on the beard and skin instead.
The Nordic Grooming Co.‘s beard balms provide outstanding shine on the beard and offer amazing conditioning. Furthermore, the fact that the beard balm scents are quite similar to that of the beard oils definitely helps enhance the scent, especially the Fresh Forest one.
There’s one thing I didn’t appreciate though. These beard balms tend to be “gritty” (or if you prefer, “granular”). As a result, it can be hard at times to get rid of those grits. It needs extra rubbing and grits can end up in your beard nonetheless, which can be annoying. This situation can happen with harder beard balms like these ones. You can’t have everything. Harder beard balms offer better control and usually better shine, but this comes at the expense of irritants like gritty texture and extra rubbing required.
Anyways, the quality of these beard balms is great and contain premium ingredients, as you can see below. I just think the The Nordic Grooming Co.‘s beard balms could benefit of being a bit softer and less gritty.
Here’s the list of ingredients for the Fresh Forest beard balm scent:
Cera Flava, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Mangifera Indica Seed Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Wax, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Theobroma Cocoa Seed Butter, Persea Gratissima Oil, Tocopherol, Helanthus Annuus Seed Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil, Rosmarinus Officials Leaf Oil, D-Limonene, Linalool.
And here’s the list of ingredients for the Lumberman beard balm scent:
Cera Flava, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Mangifera Indica Seed Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Wax, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Persea Gratissima Oil, Tocopherol, Helanthus Annuus Seed Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil, Cedrus Atlantica Wood Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus Flower Oil, Eugenol, D-Limonene, Isoeugenol, Linalool.
Pine Tar Beard and Body Soap – One of the Best Beard Soaps I’ve Used
The Nordic Grooming Co.‘s Pine Tar beard and body soap is one the best beard soaps I’ve used. Pine Tar soaps are popular amongst beardsmen for several reasons, including the fact that they’re natural, cleanse the beard pretty well and for that matter, much better than other forms of beard soaps. I had never tried a Pine Tar soap before and let me tell you one thing, if you haven’t tried one yourself, you’re missing something, man!
Most beard soaps (also called “beard wash” or “beard shampoo”) do a nice job at washing the beard and, sometimes, even conditioning it at the same time. Some feel refreshing, some don’t wash that well and some have issues getting rid of strong beard oil and beard balm scents (like musky or very woody scents, for instance).
That being said, the Nordic Grooming Co.‘s Pine Tar beard and body soap is a totally different animal. It has a strong scent of pine tar, which is very smokey and mildly woodsy. It smells a bit like a campfire, but not as much as you might think. I think it smells awesome. As for the color, the soap bar is dark grey and brownish, but don’t worry, it lathers white and won’t stain your beard at all.
As for the soap’s cleansing properties, this is where it stands out from other types of beard wash and shampoo. This Pine Tar soap is surprisingly gentle on the beard hair and skin. With such a strong scent, I really didn’t expect that. It’s actually much more gentle on the beard and skin than most beard cleansing products. It feels refreshing and cleanses extremely well, even the strongest scents you can have on your beard.
Once you’re out of the shower, subtle notes of the smokey scent can remain on your beard, but nothing to worry about. Again, I was expecting it to be much more present. This is a good thing as you don’t necessarily want you face to smell like ashes all day.
The Nordic Grooming Co. makes high quality Swedish beard products indeed. Their beard oil scents are unique, especially the Violet one which is a terrific scent idea for a beard oil.
Their beard balms, although gritty at times, are high quality too and help enhance the beard oil of the same scent.
Finally, two thumbs up for their Pine Tar soap. If you want to cleanse your beard like a boss, you need this soap. Don’t be afraid of its strong smokey scent. Once rinsed, the smokey notes will be subtle and it lathers while. Don’t be afraid of its dark color either. It lathers white and won’t stain you blonde or white beard.
