Better Beard Company is a Canadian beard product company from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Besides selling their beard products online, the company offers them in 20+ stores, in 8 Canadian provinces. Even though the company is becoming more and more successful online and in Canadian stores, Better Beard Company prides itself on creating their beard oil in small batches, using 100% natural oils.
In this article, I will review Better Beard Company’s Renaissance Man beard oil. I have been using this beard oil for about 2 months, and have enjoyed its versatility. This beard oil has become my default option on mornings when I can’t make my mind up on a specific scent.
A Versatile Complex Scent
I actually got this beard oil on my birthday and was very thrilled to receive this as a gift. The first beard oils I had used were either fruity, woody or a bit funky. The Renaissance Man beard oil from Better Beard Company is none of that. I was a bit surprised the first time I smelled it from the bottle, and even more surprised when I applied it on my beard the first time.
The smell is complex, yet versatile. The blend of essential oils is: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cedarwood, bergamot, Orange, Peppermint, Cypress, Frankincense. This is an impressive, complex and daring blend that makes this beard oil very versatile.
From my perspective, the scent is on the spicy side, with strong notes of wood, but agilely balanced with citrus and sweetness thanks to the presence of vanilla, orange and bergamot. Therefore, when I don’t feel like wearing neither a wood nor a sweet scented beard oil, the Renaissance Man beard oil is a great alternative on those days.
Applying the Oil on the Beard
The Renaissance Man beard oil feels great on both the beard and skin. The mix of aromas. as mentioned above, makes it a good all-around beard oil that can be a good fit for most beardsmen.
The bottle comes with a “Euro Dropper”, which isn’t a dropper that you take off the bottle. When using this type of dropper, you have to turn the bottle upside down and wait for each drop to come down at every few seconds. This is a great way to avoid spills, at the expense of having to wait longer to get the oil in your hands.
While this beard oil feels great, I found out that I need to use a few more drops than normal to get the same results I get with most beard oils. The Euro Dropper is partly to blame, but I also think the oil is thinner than most beard oils I have used. This is no big deal however, and I simply use more drops and that’s all. Furthermore, the fact that the bottle contains 50 ml (1.7 oz) rather than the usual 30 ml (1 oz) of most of the competition, for the about same price, makes this situation pointless.
A Shiny Yet Non-Greasy Beard
The thinner texture of this beard oil comes with a positive aspect however. I found out that it makes my beard shiny, but not greasy at all. Some beard oils may feel like they’re more effective because of their thicker and greasier texture, and it’s true most of the time, but the Renaissance Man beard oil does an excellent job when it comes to leaving a shiny finish on the beard.
All this without leaving your hands too greasy.
Here’s the list of ingredients for the Renaissance Man beard oil:
Argania Spinosa (Argan Oil), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Oil), Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grapeseed) Oil, Essential Oil Blend.
I recommend Better Beard Company’s Renaissance Man beard oil for most beardsmen, regardless of your preferences. The blend of essential oils used in this beard oil is daring, and provides a great balance of aromas that help make a unique scent with several different notes to please almost anyone. Keep in mind that it mainly smells like spicy wood, so if you don’t like wood scents at all, you might want to think again though.
Its thin texture may require more product used at a time, but in the end, the additional drops are worth it.
