Mountaineer Beard Oil
The Mountaineer beard oil scent from Ballast Beard Co. is a nice blend of Virginia cedar, lavender and vanilla. With aromas so different from each other, the Mountaineer scent is definitely a versatile one. You actually get a bit of wood, a bit of floral and a bit of sweetness. The cedar notes are quite present and provide good strength to the blend without being overwhelming. The vanilla notes are subtle whereas the lavender ones are slightly more present and help tone down the woodsy notes of cedar.
I wouldn’t say this beard oil is a woodsy one per se. I’d rather consider it as a unique scent that combines elements of wood, flower with subtle sweetness. Whether you like woodsy beard oils or floral ones in general, you will definitely appreciate this one. However, if you’re more into sweeter beard oils, this might not be the best option for you, since the vanilla presence is rather discreet.
The push cap bottle is awesome and great for dosing the beard oil. Depending on the length of your beard, push it once or twice and you’ll be fine. Unlike the typical dropper bottle, you don’t need to count the drops.

Feeling on Beard and Skin
The texture is neither too thin nor too thick and applies well on the beard. This beard oil contains Jojoba and Argan oils, which are high quality and provide several benefits for both the hair and skin. Dandruff and itching are properly taken care of with this beard oil. The scent doesn’t remain for too long on the beard.
Mountaineer Beard Balm
The Mountaineer beard balm from Ballast Beard Co. offers mostly the same scent as its beard oil counterpart, but contains stronger notes of vanilla and milder notes of cedar. For that specific reason, using the Mountaineer beard balm along with the beard oil helps tone down the cedar aroma and enhance the vanilla one.
I like the fact that this beard balm fixes the Mountaineer beard oil’s weaknesses. Personally, as an example, I would have enjoyed more vanilla in the beard oil, but since the beard balm has more of it, I get what I need when I use the Mountaineer beard oil / beard balm combo.
The texture is alright. Not gritty, not sloppy, not too hard. It applies very well on the beard and provides efficient hold and control.
Here’s the list of ingredients for the Mountaineer beard balm :
Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Mango Butter, Sunflower Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Essential Oils, Fragrance Oil.
Ballast Beard Co.’s Mountaineer beard oil is a versatile, high quality and good smelling one. Whether you like woodsy, floral or sweet beard oils, you can’t go wrong with this scent. Furthermore, the push cap gives you the perfect quantity every time.
As for the Mountaineer beard balm, I highly recommend to use it as a complement to the Mountaineer beard oil. Unlike several beard balms on the market that smell exactly like their beard oil equivalent, this beard balm helps improve the beard oil’s scent by adding more vanilla to it and toning down the Virginia cedar notes.
