The Gilded Beard is a Canadian beard product company based in Alberta. The company prides itself on creating a wide range of all natural handcrafted beard products, as well as shaving products and various men grooming accessories.
This article is the second part of a two-part product review series for The Gilded Beard.
In the first part, I reviewed four beard oil scents from this company.
In the second part of this review series, I will review one of their beard balm, a beard cleanse and their mustache wax.

Home Grown Beard Balm – Citrus, Patchouli and Cedar
The Home Grown beard balm is a quite unique product, in two ways. First off, I’ve never used a beard balm with such texture. Visually, it looks like snow and it’s very soft. As a result, it applies extremely well on the beard and isn’t grainy. This is definitely one of the best beard balms I got the chance to review.
The second element that makes this beard balm unique is its scent. I couldn’t describe what it was before I read the list of ingredients. It’s rather woodsy and herbal, with mild notes of citrus. The scent is pleasant and this beard balm does an excellent job at shaping the beard. I have used it with differents kinds of beard oils and found out that it’s pretty versatile. One of my favorite combinations is with The Gilded Beard’s Rootbeard beard oil scent (reviewed in the first part of this review series). Pretty solid!
Here’s the list of ingredients for the Home Grown beard balm:
Beeswax, Shea butter, Sweet almond oil, Coconut oil, Vitamin E, Essential oils for fragrance.
Beard Cleanse – Lathers and Refreshes like Crazy
The Gilded Beard’s beard cleanse is another solid product of theirs. This beard cleanse offers rich peppermint notes and a mild notes of rosemary. Just like the beard balm reviewed above, this beard cleanse has a unique scent thanks to the use of rosemary. Peppermint beard wash is common, but this one has herbal notes that help make it smell like no other. As a result, you get a refreshing beard shampoo, with a touch of spice.
Besides offering a nice unique scent, this beard cleanse lathers like crazy, to say the least. I don’t mind personally, and I tend to prefer beard soaps that lather a lot. However, I know some beardsmen hate that, so I think it’s important to address this aspect of the product.
This beard cleanse is quite effective and it’s so refreshing, you actually feel the cleansing on your face. No only does it cleanses the beard pretty well, it does an amazing job at cleansing the skin underneath.
Mustache Wax with Resin – Do Whatever you Want with your ‘Stache!
The Gilded Beard offers two types of mustache wax. They have light hold and heavy hold wax. The one I tried out is heavy hold.
I don’t have a huge mustache, but I can nonetheless do funny things with it, for the sake of a mustache wax review. I can confirm this heavy hold mustache wax definitely helps you create the handlebar mustache you’ve been dreaming of. However, if you’re looking for a way to touch up waves or rebel areas on your beard, this product is overkill. You should use the light hold mustache wax instead.
Here’s the list of ingredients for The Gilded Beard’s heavy hold mustache wax:
Cera Alba, Pine Resin, Cocos Nuci Fera (coconut) Oil, Theobroma, Cacao (cocoa) Seed Butter, Lanolin, Tocopherol.
I was very impressed with each and every product I reviewed in this series. The Gilded Beard offers unique beard oil scents that really stand out from the competition. There’s nothing like these on the market and they can proud of that.
As for their beard balm, most of the irritants found in some beard balms on the market aren’t present in The Gilded Beard’s. The texture is unexpected and pretty effective, and the well-balanced cedar / patchouli / citrus scent if terrific.
Their beard cleanse is probably the most lathering out there, and also, one the most refreshing and one of the best beard cleanser you can get.
Finally, if you are looking for the strong mustache wax for your David Crosby type mustache, you can’t go wrong with The Gilded Beard’s heavy hold mustache wax.
