Beard Product Review – 2 Beard Oil Scents from Beards and Beavers

Beards and Beavers is a Canadian company from Toronto, Ontario, specialized in beard product handcrafting, as well as beard apparel. The company uses 5 essential oils that are easily perceivable when wearing their beard oil. These essential oils actually blend notes of tree bark, tangerine, musk and vanilla bourbon.

In this article, I will review the first two beard oils I bought a few weeks after the beginning of my own beard journey. The first one is called Skipper, which blends spice, rum and sweet orange, and the second one is called Funk’D, which is a more complex scent that blends notes of sandalwood, vanilla and musk.

The Skipper – A Nice Sweet and Spicy Beard Oil

Beards and Beavers’ Skipper beard oil is a nice sweet and spicy beard oil that contains notes of spice and rum, and well-balanced with a subtle scent of sweet orange. This beard oil is great for everyday use, since its scent isn’t season-specific like fruity or ultra-spicy beard oils. The notes of rum are very present, and I’m talking about spicy rum. The sweet orange notes are very important in the blend, as they help balance a scent that would be very strong otherwise. The 3 aromas mentioned are all very present, even the sweet orange. As a result, the Skipper is a good option for fruit, spicy and sweet scent lovers.

Here’s the list of ingredients for Beards and Beavers’ Skipper beard oil :

Almond Oil, Argan Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C.

Funk’D – For The Wild Ones

Beards and Beavers’ Funk’D beard oil is a very special one. Among the dozens of beard oils I have used, it doesn’t smell like any other.

The blend is pretty unusual. It consists of notes of deep sandalwood, vanilla and musk. The result provides a coarse beard oil scent, with light notes of wood, and strong notes of vanilla and musk. I think this scent is pretty funky, just like its name says, very daring and quite strong, but not in the same way as a deep wood scented beard oil. The scent is very sweet, not like candy, but more like dessert. As I mentioned, I have never smelled another beard oil like this. I like it very much and use it frequently. However, unlike the Skipper, it’s not a beard oil I want to use everyday, mostly because it’s very funky.

Don’t get me wrong, the Funk’D‘s scent is really badass. It’s just a beard oil that you might prefer using when you go out on wild nights with friends or during a date, rather than on Tuesday mornings at the office. I just wanted to warn you about the funkiness of the scent.

Nevertheless, I enjoy having this beard oil in my cabinet, when I feel wilder 🙂

Feeling on Beard and Skin

The quality of these two beard oils from Beards and Beavers is awesome. The oil’s texture is almost perfect, neither too thin nor too thick. The oil feels great on my beard and skin, and leaves a nice long-lasting shiny finish. The aromas smell stronger than average, but remain on the positive side. However, I must admit that the Funk’D smells particularly strong, and for that specific reason, I’d rather use less drops and perhaps more beard balm on that day. Anyways, considering the product’s great quality, a few drops are enough during your grooming routine.

Based on the Skipper and the Funk’D scents, Beards and Beavers handcraft amazing beard oils. The quality is there, and these two blends are well-thought and pretty interesting.

The Skipper is a nice sweet and spicy beard oil with notes of spice, rum and sweet orange that provide a scent suitable for all seasons and all occasions.

On the other hand, the Funk’D scent is more complex, and smells very good. However, because of the funkiness of the sandalwood, vanilla and musk, I would recommend to use this beard oil on specific occasions rather than everyday.
