The HOBO Company is a family-owned company from Hutto, Texas. The company offers several types of products, including beard and shaving accessories, bracelets, apparel, lip balms, beard balm, and obviously, beard oil.
In this article, I will review their Whiskey Railroad Beard Oil. This is a very manly beard oil scent with agilely-blended aromas, and the quality of this product is astonishing indeed.

The Scent – Sandalwood Bourbon and Peppermint
To set the record straight right off the bat, the scent of this beard oil is badass, unique and kudos to The HOBO company for coming up with such a great idea!
As my loyal readers already know, I’ve reviewed dozens of beard oils and, of course, I’ve got my favorite ones that I still use on a regular basis. I also have more daring scents that I use less frequently. After trying out the Whiskey Railroad Beard Oil several times already, I can confirm that this bottle falls on the first category.
If that beard oil smelled sandalwood bourbon only, it would be too strong and probably too sweet, and if it smelled peppermint only, it would probably make my eyes cry and ruin my sinuses. However, the fact that they agilely blended those two aromas, with perfect balance, makes this beard oil smell literally 50% sandalwood bourbon and 50% peppermint. The bourbon and peppermint notes are equal. There’s no predominent aromas in this blend other than the unique end result The HOBO Company has created.
You only get the good sides of both aromas. Sandalwood bourbon provides a slightly woodsy base, with mild notes of whiskey, and the peppermint adds a refreshing twist to the blend. This beard oil is slightly cologne-like, but not that much. It’s not musky and doesn’t smell like perfume either. Anyways, with this kind of scent on your beard, I think it’s even better than cologne.
Feeling on the Beard and Skin
To be honest, the first time I used this beard oil, I wasn’t too thrilled about its texture. It felt strange. I wasn’t as greasy or oily as the average beard oil. It is rather thin as well.
That being said, the more I used it, the more I liked it. Apparently, the feeling I experienced with the texture lies on the fact that The HOBO Company prides itself on not using the typical carrier oils found in most beard oils, such as, Castor Oil, Argan Oil and Sweet Almond Oil. Castor Oil, for instance, besides offering several benefits such as promoting hair growth, has a significant impact in terms of beard oil thickness. As a result, when this carrier oil isn’t present in a beard oil, you can’t expect to get a thick and greasy product.
Nevertheless, the Whiskey Railroad Beard Oil is a quite effective beard oil. It does what it’s supposed to do without being sloppy. You won’t get your hands oily if you touch your beard 30 minutes after putting it on. This beard oil hydrates my beard just like most beard oils, although its unusual texture made me second-guess this point the first time I used it.
The shine this beard oil gives to my beard is among the best I’ve ever got. It won’t make your beard glitter, but it will give a slick and shiny look to your beard that lasts for a while. Normally, you need sloppier beard oil and sometimes even beard butter to achieve a similar result.
The quality of this product is high and although it may be disappointing to notice that Castor Oil and Argan Oil are not a part of this beard oil, The HOBO Company decided to use other carrier oils that offer, for the most part, the same benefits. Furthermore, besides getting a high quality beard oil, it costs peanuts. This is the best of both worlds, as it’s a quite solid beard oil at one of the lowest prices on the market.
The HOBO Company meticulously picked 7 oils to make that blend, which is pretty impressive.
Here’s the list of ingredients in the Whiskey Railroad Beard Oil:
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Golden Jojoba Oil, Hemp Seed Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Orange Bitter Essential Oil, Peppermint Supreme Essential Oil, and Sandalwood Bourbon Essential Oil.
If I had a star system for my beard product reviews, the Whiskey Railroad Beard Oil would get 5 stars out of 5. I don’t see how someone couldn’t enjoy the unique scent made of Sandalwood Bourbon and Peppermint The HOBO Company created. If you’re aware that the texture may feel unusual at first, you’ll appreciate this beard oil. It’s subtly woodsy, mildly sweet and refreshing. The balance of aromas is perfect and I think this beard oil has a great competitive edge over several other players in the market.
